Five crew members with Advisor Ken Li and Jo & Kerry Hazelett joined 30 other volunteers at this East Bay Regional Park to improve the drainage on a steep section of trail that had some erosion problems. We dug water drainage “dips” in the trail. We learned how to use tools specialized for trail and backcountry fire fighting work carving out the trail in a way to direct water off the trail. Eroded gullies were filled back in an packed down.
Kathy is shown in high speed performing the “jumping” method of packing.
The Crew’s work team posed at one of our drainage dips.
After the morning’s work, we were treated to burritos donated by Chipotle Mexican Grill and then the sponsor REI gave out water bottles and t-shirts and had a raffle drawing.
