This is an amazing community service opportunity for PCSC members and parents. Every Thursday evening (except for breaks) some members go to a house in Oakland in the Fruitvale District to tutor children and help them with their homework. Many of these children are refugees who, being part of the minority Karen ethnicity in Myanmar, fled the country to escape persecution and violence. Our job, for an hour and a half or so, is to help these children do their homework if they have any, as well as entertaining some of the younger ones by reading to them or helping them with art projects. For this event, we will always need at least one driver and up to four students. However, if we are able to get multiple drivers a certain week, that will allow us to take more tutors.
